Etienne Klein, a French physicist decided to play the social network users. He claimed that a photo showing a circle of chorizo sausage was an image taken by the James Webb space observatory. He wanted to prove that not everything they post on the network is true.
Klein’s original message was retweeted by over a thousand people. He even had to apologize to the people he misled.
“I was shocked by what happened. Klein stated that he expected people to immediately recognize that the photo was a fake. Klein also stated that journalists from French television stations shared the photo.
He also said that he didn’t want to deceive or ridicule anyone. He only wanted to show how easy it was to fall for false information.
