Amazon Freevee: Amazon Launches Free Streaming Portal with Ads

With more streaming providers joining the market, the streaming industry is becoming more confusing. Amazon also has a presence, but Prime Video now includes a second, free, ad-based track called Freevee. This “new” service is called Amazon Freevee. The quotes were deliberately selected here. This streaming service is actually not new. However, it has been around for some time under a different name: IMDb TV.

This was the original content of the Internet Movie Database. IMDb was long owned by Amazon, the mail-order giant. However, Amazon recently announced that it would relaunch IMDb TV under the Freevee brand. It is a play on Free and English TV, and is not surprising that the name reminds of Freebie or (business gift).
Freevee is part Amazon’s site

Freevee now available in the EU. Freevee does not have a website. It is integrated into Amazon’s main webpage. The service can be described partly because of its indistinguishable user interface as an Amazon Prime video with advertisements. You can access Freevee without any restrictions, but you will have to accept commercial interruptions.

Freevee’s content is older, but you won’t have to watch the same old movies or series as you do with TV. You can still find what you want on the portal, even if you don’t like watching them. Bosch: Legacy is the centerpiece of Freevee’s own productions. Other series include “2 Broke Girls”, Person of Interest, and Broadchurch. The program also features older productions and B-Ware. According to Ryan Pirozzi (Bild with Freevee) in an interview, the maximum amount of advertising on the service is nine minutes per hour. This is significantly less than what you would see on private TV.
