Android Auto for mobile has officially been discontinued. Although the end of the app’s life has been known for several months now, Google delivered the final blow on Wednesday, June 22, 2022. The mobile app has been closed.
On doesn’t play the surprise game. Google Assistant’s Car Mode replaced Android Auto for mobile a year ago. Although the Android Auto mobile application was removed by Google in August 2021, it was still available on Android 11 and 10.
Android Car benefited therefore from a brief delay. Users began to see a message in the app’s opening screen reminding them about the imminent end of the service. Users were also asked to switch to Google Assistant driving mode as soon possible. The application was officially shut down as of this writing. Drivers without an infotainment display in their cars will be able to use Google Assistant’s car mode (or a third-party app) to navigate, control music, and other functions.
Android Auto for mobile has officially ended
Open Android Auto for mobile to instantly take you to the Google Assistant Auto Mode settings webpage. A message will inform you that Android Auto is only available for cars screens.
Google Assistant’s auto mode is perfect for those who plan to travel this summer.
If you’re familiar with Android Auto, however, you will be able to tell the difference. The driving mode has its flaws, in that it does not have certain features that Android Auto offers, like the landscape mode or the ability to switch to another navigation app than Google Maps.
These concerns are not the only ones. There is an availability problem. Some drivers do not have an alternative to using the Android Auto mobile application. Google Assistant’s auto mode for now is available in Germany and Australia, Canada, Spain (US), France, India, Italy and Mexico.
