Apple Captures Half of China’s Smartphone Market by Selling 7 Million iPhones in ‘6.18’ Sale

China’s annual “6.18 sale saw total smartphone sales reach 14 million. This is a 25% decrease from last year. While shipment of Chinese brands like Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo has slowed, Apple’s iPhone sales are at an all-time high.

According to Strategy Analytics, Apple sold almost 7 million iPhones out of 14 million. This is more than any competitor and surpasses all other major commercial platforms in terms revenue.

Canalys recently reported that global smartphone shipments fell by 9% in the second quarter 2022, while Apple’s market share was 17%. This is an increase of 3% over the previous year. While the share of Samsung smartphones increased by 3%, to 21%, the market shares for Chinese manufacturers Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi fell to 14% and 10%, respectively.

 

The data show that the demand for the iPhone 13 in China is still strong, despite the many supply chain problems and economic hardships that have impacted the tech sector.

Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple analyst believes that the iPhone 14 series will be in high demand. This is especially true since Apple has dominated the Chinese market for 5G smartphones after Huawei’s de facto departure.
