Flagship Huawei P60 will get a strange SoC Kirin 9100 on the old 14 nm process technology? Rumors say that such a platform will be no worse than modern ones.

Strange rumors have surfaced on the internet about the Huawei P60 smartphone. Particularly, about its platform.

There were reports on Weibo that the new Huawei flagship would receive SoC Kirin9100. This SoC will be manufactured using the 14-nm process technology. The Kirin 9000 is made according to 5nm standards. The latest Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen1 boasts a 4nm process tech.

The source claims that the new SoC will perform as well as solutions made with 5 nm process technology. It is unclear how this will be accomplished and how Huawei adapts the modern Cortex processor cores for the old process technology. However, it mentions using a three-dimensional layout.

Huawei, on the one hand is subject to US sanctions and cannot order single-chip systems that support 5G from TSMC/Samsung. The company can, however, use Snapdragon platforms with 4G. Secondly, it is not possible to technically create a single-chip technology based on modern CPUs or GPUs that have performance and power consumption comparable to modern solutions but using a process technology many generations older.
